Orientalism & Subversion

Week #8

Stress and Emotional Troubles & How the Affects this Subject.

So, for the past few days of this being made, I have gone through far far too much stress and complicated feelings I’m not used to. Honestly, I never wanted to be used to.
These past few days have stressed me to my core, to my genuine soul, and sadly I don’t handle it well, I’m facing a lack of sleep, lack of eating, shakes, anxiety, all of them at once. Now this isn’t a sob story of “oh boohoo woah is me”, No, everyone has their issues, and sometimes those issues hit at the wrong time.

Now on to my next point, I don’t have much of an understanding of this subject and what it means to me, and sadly, my head space is hurting the learning process, no matter many times I read through it.

Stereotypes and Cover Judging.

I think this will be the first subject I cover, its the most interesting to me and probably the most complicated.
Its stereotypes, mostly because they have a interesting place in my heart. When are they hurtful, where is the truth, why believe a generalization.

What am I?

What would you say I am? American, English, something naturally Caucasian probably, right?
Well, I’d say I’m actually Mexican, can you believe that at first glace? Probably not.
Well, lets get your opinion. I was born in the U.S. unintentionally to a English father and a polish mother, my birth in the U.S. was not the plan. After me being conceived I “lived” in America for 2-3 years give or take.
So, AHA, he is American! Right?
Well, I was then moved to Mexico, where I spent 17 entire years of my coherent life. Inheriting the culture, growing up on the language, and mixing with the people.
So, would you call me Mexican then?

I wonder… I really do, far more often than I should, and its good to talk about it.
Where is my home? What is my nationality? Is it as easy as saying one thing or the other?
I’m not certain, I’ve had some say I’m not, and that I’m a product of cultural appropriation, while some accept me with open arms, saying I’m a brother in this.
Funny enough, those who accept me or from my culture and those who deny me, know nothing of Mexico and her people.
I really wonder what you think, what am I?
With European blood, an American Birth, and a Mexican upbringing.
Where do I stand, what is my Stereotype?

What Stereotype.

A stereotype, without looking up the official definition, is a hurtful character of a race or group of people based on subjects that are either untrue or blown out of proportion.
Hopefully, that was a good explanation of it.

These stereotypes all have very harmful effects on society as a whole and force some to treat others differently solely based on the colour of there skin, the place they are from, or the culture they celebrate.

I think that will be it for this one. I really don’t have much more to say on this subject, I’m really sorry for the short read. Its a pain I know. But its what I got.
